About
A studio for products that need to grow
Indie Gateway brings design and engineering together so teams can ship web apps that stay coherent under pressure — commercially, operationally, and technically.
Studio note
We exist for the hard middle of product building
The easy parts of software get plenty of attention: the first prototype, the fundraising demo, the redesign that looks great on launch day. The hard middle is quieter — when tenancy gets messy, when operators invent shadow workflows, when the codebase can no longer absorb the next three features without debt compounding.
That is where we spend most of our time. Indie Gateway is a product engineering studio built to help teams move through that middle with clarity: better product decisions, stronger foundations, and delivery that does not depend on heroics.
We are intentionally small. Senior people do the work. Clients get direct access. And every engagement is designed so your team can own the product when we step back.
Why we exist
Clarity first, then scale
Most products don’t fail because of missing features — they fail when the foundation can’t keep up, or when the interface no longer matches how people actually work.
We focus on structure, craft, and delivery rhythm: the unglamorous ingredients that make the next year of shipping possible.
Principles
How we show up on every engagement
Senior-led delivery
Experienced designers and engineers stay close to the work — not just the kickoff deck. Decisions happen with people who will live with the consequences in the codebase.
One integrated squad
Product thinking, UI, and backend decisions happen in the same conversation. Fewer handoffs means fewer surprises at the end of a sprint.
Built for handoff
Clean codebases, documented decisions, and systems your team can keep shipping. We measure success by what you can own after we leave.
Honest scope
We would rather cut ambition early than pretend a six-week problem fits in three. Clear tradeoffs beat optimistic timelines.
Operational empathy
We design for the people who use the product every day — including support, ops, and admins who inherit every shortcut.
Quiet reliability
Observability, tests, and boring infrastructure are part of the craft. Flashy demos matter less than calm Mondays after launch.
Team
People who have shipped before
Our network includes product designers, frontend and backend engineers, and technical leads who have built SaaS platforms, marketplaces, and regulated products. We staff leanly — usually a core of three to six people per engagement — so communication stays tight.
You will not meet an account layer that rephrases your messages. You will meet the people designing screens, writing services, and reviewing pull requests.
Where we work
Remote-first, with intentional time together
Indie Gateway operates as a remote-first studio with collaborators across Europe and North America. Kickoffs and critical workshops often happen in person when it helps; day-to-day delivery runs on shared tools, recorded decisions, and overlapping hours that respect focus time.
Clients typically work with us in English. We are comfortable inside modern stacks — TypeScript, React, Node, Go, Postgres, common cloud providers — and we adapt to your environment rather than forcing a house style where it does not fit.
Partnership
We work like an extension of your product team
Weekly demos, shared roadmaps, and direct access to the people building — whether you need a launch sprint or a longer engagement. When priorities shift, we replan openly instead of silently slipping dates.
